Lyocell is a fibre made from wood pulp cellulose. It was first manufactured in 1988 by Courtaulds, Fibres UK at their pilot plant S25. The current manufacturer is in the US is Lenzing Inc who market it under the trade marked brand name Tencel. The production process for Lyocell is extremely environmentally friendly - the fibre has all the advantages of a natural material and is 100% eco - friendly. Lyocell was introduced to consumers in 1991, and share many properties with other cellulosic fibres such as cotton linen and ramie. Some characteristics of Lyocell Fibers are 1.
